The plant is located at Arama, a village in Aranayake in the Kegalle District, in the Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka, approximately 125 kilometers eastward of Colombo, at an elevation of 300 meters above mean sea level. The agricultural economy of the area is based on the local cultivation of rubber, paddy and other mixed crops. The well known waterfall Assupini Ella is walking distance from the power plant.
WATER SOURCE
Maha Oya is one of the major rivers in Sri Lanka, 128 km long, meandering across four provinces and five districts. It originates in Nawalapitiya in the central hills at an elevation of over 1000 metres above sea level and reaches the Indian Ocean at Kochchikade, on the West coast near Negombo. More than a million of people live by this river, harnessing its benefits for their subsistence and livelihood activities.
